Today’s reasons to smile

(rather than lament about still not having internet access at home yet):

• It’s Labour Day (which usually means protests in Europe)!
• It’s also Christ Drives to Heaven (Christi Himmelfahrt – aka Ascension Day- it’s better to smile about having two holidays on the same day than look at it as ‘we’re screwed out of a holiday this year’)!
• American week started at Lidl yesterday (that’s always entertaining – bbq chicken pizza, cranberry everything, etc)!
• Baseball is being played today in Bonn!
• It’s sunnyish and warmish (it’s going to be about 14°C – I’ll take what I can get)!.

Off to the ballpark!

I think Ascension day is on the 22nd so you should still get a holiday – We do in Hessen anyway :)

Although I have now read elsewhere that today is Ascension day, so I guess it must be, as Easter was very early this year – wonder what the holiday on the 22nd then? :)

the 22nd is Chorpus Christi day… happy corpse day, or something like that. I have no idea what happened on that day, but its not a holiday in Thüringen.

Ascension is today and Corpus Christi (body of Christ) is on the 22nd this year. It celebrates the sacrament of Communion/the holy Eucharist.

As Catholic school young-ins we’d participate in a procession each year, walking around the church, following someone carrying the Communion host. Although at that age, we were mainly celebrating being outside on a nice spring day. :-/

It’s not an NRW holiday either. :-(

Yeah, Corpus Christi is only a holiday in certain states. Some people were really cranky that MayDay/Labour Day and Himmelfahrt/Father’s Day fell on the same day this year ’cause they had to squeeze two holidays worth of beer drinking into one. :-)

We were at Lidl on Wednesday laughing at all the “American” stuff. Sheesh. We did buy some marshmallows though. Can’t really ruin those.

We get the 22nd too here in RLP.
