Travel Tuesday – Update from Thailand

After spending just about 3 weeks in Vietnam, it’s quite odd being back in Thailand.

Horns in VN are just about connected to starter motors, whereas in Thailand they are used only when needed. Also, there are tons more tourists here than in VN (other than Saigon).

There are also a lot more Germans here than there – and all of them somehow end up sitting near me, speaking their harsh language very loudly and smoking like chimneys. Quite annoying.

At one outdoor pub, a retired German and her hubby sat next to me and more and more friends kept joining and after about 20 minutes, I had been pushed into a corner, so I got up and moved to the other side of the room.

Back to the post.

Thais are friendlier than Vietnamese (or seem to be). I think that’s due to the fact that tourists are an every day occurrance in a lot of TH and not so much in VN.

Also, I am currently 7 degrees north of the equator and it’s sweltering here (an observation, not complaint). The days are in the low 30s (C) and the nights dip all the way down to 24C (sometimes). I love it! However, the shops all have their air-conitioners on the Alaska setting, so I’m hoping not tocatch a cold.

That’s it for now.

Good to hear that the trampling cruise ship hordes haven’t discovered Vietnam – yet. Can’t compare about friendliness – they seemed very friendly in Vietnam when I was there 15 years ago.

Ian, it’s only a matter of time til that happens, the way things are going. Unfortunately.
