The Internet
2 February, 2000
I LOVE the internet. I have been using it for 3 years now and love all it has to offer. I love to be able to find out about anything I want at the click of a mouse. instant access to all that the world has to offer at any time of the day, no matter what the subject is! What more could one ask for?
Email is fantastic. Most of my family uses the internet and has email access. Even people that didn’t think they could found out that it is possible, and quite easy. That is the way I keep in touch with almost everyone.
I started off on the internet by using WebTV, a system that lets one (in North America) access the internet over your television, by use of a cable box sized converter. I was instantly hooked. I set up a webpage and started to find out everything about anything I could ever want to know about. I also started to chat.
I have used a few different systems for chatting on the internet. I have friends on WBS, Talkcity, and TTYC. What do we chat about? Well, basically, everything and nothing. Sometimes it is serious chat about life (travel, jobs, divorce, marriage, kids, etc.), other times it is just joking around and having fun (remember Laundry-Live?). It doesn’t really matter. We all know that the others are there for us. I think we all like having a place where we know that we will find our friends and are not judged on our looks. We all hang out and have a good time. I guess you could say that it’s kind of like our "Cheers." It’s great!
I have met many chat friends in person. It is not a big deal for me to meet them, as I usually only meet people that I have chatted with for quite a while. Also, we meet in a public place. The in person meetings are cool, as by the time I meet someone, I know what they’re like, based on our chats. Meeting them is just a final step. I hold my chat friends in highest regards.
The internet is a fantastic tool for anyone that wants to use it. I am a big proponent of it and encourage all to learn about it.
